Only a few days left until the "spookiest" night of the year. Looking to hear what kooky costumes anyone is coming up with. I'm going to be a devil.
Pretty typical, but wanted to find a costume that I would be comfortable while working at the bar. We're having a raffle, a costume contest, and a few bands. Should be a really good night at the bar.
We've had some fun around the apartment with the costumes. For some reason my roommate has an obsession with buying wigs. We've had some fun trying them on and wearing them around the apartment.
I must say I could not have found a more fun roommate. We're both weird and we never seem to cross the line with each other. We both get it.
Anyways, not too much to report here except that my car recently decided to stop starting. I still have to get that fixed, but since it is right before the weekend I have so much work lately that the car may have to sit until Tuesday. Luckily, my dad seems to be a collector of cars and usually has one to spare.
I'm also going to see if I can get a pic of my latest pumpkin carving and send it to Mom. Hopefully she'll be able to put it up on the blog.

We're headed to the balloon festival today and then trick or treating on the 31st. We have one evil villain, one Darth Vader, one Batman, one Spiderman, and one devil.
Anyone starting work on Christmas gifts yet? We don't do store-bought except a couple of things for the kids but, since we're returning to the land o' Lincoln for a visit, the kids are going to make some gifts to pass out to the relatives. Will probably make something for the neighbors as well, as is our custom when the mood strikes.

We don't do Christmas gifts around here, but No. 2 has done some pretty special home-made gifts through the years. One year she made a calendar (for the next year, obviously) taking pictures of us in various seasons as the "pic of the month" atop the fold. I still have that one. She also made a potential hotpack out of dry rice in a gunnie-sack-type-of-material. You put it in the microwave to heat it up and then put it on your soreness. I still have that one, too. I also still have the voodoo doll she made for me, but I've never used that one. Heh.
Trick-or-treat candy broke my budget this year. Next year I'm gonna start looking for the sales in June [It's not like the candy bought this month hasn't been sitting around somewhere since June, anyway!]. We've always been a Trick-or-Treat-friendly house, getting into the spirit of the evening by wearing the snake around my neck when I answer the door, but this year we're gonna have to turn the porch light off after the 8 bags of candy we bought are gone, because we had to set a limit. I hope we don't miss the regulars. We've watched many of these children grow through the years and I really hate to turn anyone away because they're now old enough to trick-or-treat later. [sigh]
I've been looking for pictures of the balloon festival near you, Diane. Hope you don't waste any time getting them up on your blog.
No. 2, have Jen (or someone) take pictures with your cell phone and Email them to me.
We're lucky being out here in the boonies -- no trick or treaters at all.
The little town up the road has a "Halloween in the Park" thing each year. No door-to-door trick or treating. Everyone with candy sets up chairs in the little park, everyone with kids brings them to the park. Trick or treating is in a small, contained, well-lit area with the police station/fire department right there. The fire department, well, part of it, is turned into a haunted house while another of their bays is set up for games. It's pretty cool.
The Poteau Balloon Festival was incredibly lame. We will NOT be returning. I don't think I'll be posting about it on the blog because I'll do nothing but cuss and bellyache about it. I forgot the camera but we got a few with Steve's cell phone. I STILL don't know how to open files from his phone yet, though, because they arrive to me as .bin types.
Alzip claims to be able to open .bin files. If you're running on any of the following platforms: Win98,WinME,WinNT 4.x,Windows2000,WinXP,Windows2003...you should be able to download the software.
Too bad about the balloon festival, but as I read about it I thought you'd be disappointed. I should post more pics from Albuquerque, but I don't feel like it. I'm getting the urge to go out and plant lettuce. The weather is finally cool enough for it.

ALSO, we voted early today, checked out one car dealer (pfft), had a partial lunch at Wendy's (pfft again), and checked out the newly developed fitness center in our town to see if it was "good enough" for us. Heh.
It's cheaper (free for Em) than what we're using right now, but it's further away. My opinion is that we should use it (partly because I can't afford the monthly at the local gym and partly because I want to be Em's workout partner), but Em and I need to agree and he's been going to his gym for a LONG, LONG time.
Someone's been eating the Halloween candy, so I'll need to turn off the porch light even earlier tomorrow night. [sigh]
Wow. I finally got all of your balloon pics to load, including the new ones. Just wow. LOTS of balloons.
The Poteau one had only 10 or so balloons that I saw. It was all about the expensive carnival rides rather than the balloons, although I did get to scream insanely at some stupid woman who ticked me off. I guess that was worth the price of admission.
No go on the software. I could get it to zip and unzip files but it wouldn't actually open the bin file. Could be my complete lack of computer skills, though. I'll have to pick the brain of David, computer genius brother, after Thanksgiving. He's off for a vacation in Greece this coming week, then will travel to Illinois for the clan get-together so he'll be busy for a while. Steve showed me one of the pics he took of me watching the older two boys ride "The Avalanche". Classic. Must find a way to post that one for you.
Gyms. Blech. We lucked into a pristine Bowflex not long ago. We also have a decent treadmill. Plus all of the physically demanding chores you could ever dream of. If you ever need a workout, just let me know...

Yep. Albuquerque's Balloon Fest is (I think) the largest in the world (It's an international fest, ya know) with between 500 and 600 balloons. Heh. At some point ya can't take 3 steps in the field without stepping on a balloon. In contrast, Poteau's Fest advertised 30 balloons and it seemed as though they were more for a "tether and glow" than something in which kids could go up.
Yeah...city folks need exercise programs. Then again, from the photos I saw from the Arkansas wingding, looks to me like rural folks need exercise programs, as well.
Cancelled my old ISP today; cancelled my extra phone line today. Learned that I'd had that ISP for almost 10 years. I would have guessed 5-7.

Have been reading that Hard Times book and last night I awakened mid-night, so got up to read in an attempt to tire out my eyes. The tire out my eyes part worked well, but I had REALLY goofy dreams off that book. Halloween-type stuff...BOO!
So how's the superzoomy internet world of DSL or whatever it is you switched to? Feel good to be playing with the big boys, or at least capable of it?

It is SO cool! I've been a slave to UTUBE for a few days now. All the videos I could never see before are now available to me. The photos that couldn't load to Photobucket before it timed out can now be loaded. AND (the best thing) is that this bounty of excess costs half of what I was paying for a dedicated phone line and dial-up. Does a cheap girl proud!
We didn't get as many trick-or-treaters last night as we normally do (or I didn't remember how many bags of candy we bought in past years). We had candy leftover in addition to the candy that Em and No 1 put aside for themselves fearing that we wouldn't have candy leftover. Heh.
No. 1 did the snake at the door thing for several hours while I made dinner. After dinner, *I* took over and we put the snake in the candy bowl with a cloth over the bowl. THAT was a good Halloween trick! Heh. Good times; good times.
