Pre-Game St. Patty's Day (updated to include more pics)

Top of the mornin' to ya. I thought we'd get a wee bit of St. Patty's Day celebratin' off to a good ol' start before the day arrived. Not sure how this is going to work, but let's try out a little bit of me new acquired skills: Since I lack a digital camera, I have to rely on what other people have posted at the moment... And let me state that I'm a little less stressed about this coming Saturday since my one boss told me that they won't be having no bullocks this year. All incoming celebrators will be filtered upon entry. That means that anyone already pretty drunk or with intent of becoming extremely intoxicated will NOT be welcome through our doors. That will affect my finances a wee bit, but I think I'd rather make sure this St. Patty's Day is a mild one with less problems that a wee bit wealthier of one with lots of violent eruptions, chaos, and possible involuntary digestive projections. I will do my best to get some photos, but we might have to settle for the ones my cell phone takes if I can't find any of my myspace friends at the bar with their camera's. Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket But to add some other photo's, here's one that a customer took with a disposable camera and scanned and sent to me... Gotta love photobucket!!! Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket Oldnovice update: I deleted or fixed what most of us couldn't see above, and now add a photo of No. 2 on THIS year's St. Patrick's Day (as well as some of her and some other Davidson's crew): Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket The green hair wouldn't work, but the overall effect was great! Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket /Oldnovice update Oh, on another note, I've come to realize that even though my roommate and I are total opposites, we are definitely the ying to each other's yang. We seem to be different in so many ways, but when we come together we find total harmony and seem to balance each other out. Hoo-rah for my best friend and hetereosexual lifemate! :) Definitely time for bed. xoxo

Okay, the preview of my new post did NOT cut out the pictures on the right side. I guess it's just a good thing that I was in the LEFT half of the picture! I forgot to mention that that picture was from the Superbowl this year although you may have been able to guess from my attire. :)

Looks like many of your pictures may be too large for this new Google Blogger format? (I see mostly big Xs). Edit them inside photobucket to be whatever size it states for websites.

Pictures taken with your phone work well. Most of the Chicago pics were taken with your phone.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Pics aren't working for me, either.

Well, I'm just gonna let this one go since I don't know how to crop pics in photobucket, plus, I prob won't be able to find these pics again very easily. I'll just try and start new with fresh ones next time I'm feeling spunky. What's weird to me is that they are all showing up on my end!

Were you guys able to see ANY of the pics or just not the ones at the end?

Might be that you saved them on your PC before the space ran out on the Photobucket account of whoever it was who had the pics. Last week I saw a photo about corned beef & cabbage, but this week it went to the bit bucket.

Anyway, I THINK it's all fixed now. Sorry it took me so long to get a round tuit. Cheapskating has taken more time than usual this week because I'm branching out in that area of my life. :-) This next week is our last week in town before we spend a week in Mississippi.

I think I mentioned the Mississippi trip, didn't I? Em's son and a bunch of other people go to Tunica each year to commiserate [;-)], play golf together, and gamble. I've been invited to go along this year. I figure it's because I can keep him awake on the road, but I'll keep my usual nonexistent profile when it comes to family/friend occasions.

We'll be staying at the Gold Strike Casino resort in Tunica for a full five days. They have both a gym and a pool (which I probably mentioned in another thread). I plan on using both, and ordered a swim cap yesterday that should be here before we leave. I also ordered a cell phone from Virgin Mobile just in case. I think I get 10 minute's time on the thing for $10.80 OTD. It should be able to serve us for both this trip and the trip to the left coast before it wants us to pay something to keep the same number, but we just might recycle it after that and get another when we need one again.

The Gold Strike shares a cul-de-sac with two other hotels and there are free shuttles between Tunica hotels, so between the gym, pool, patio, casino at the Gold Strike and the gyms, pools, patios, casinos at the hotels of folks I meet who invite me to their hotel gyms, pools & casinos, I think I should be able to wile away almost a week. I bought some pool shoes yesterday (cheap thongs) so I can swim at each pool without worry of someone stealing something valuable. I THINK the room key is plastic (not minding getting wet), but I'm not sure where I'd put it on my person. Men's swim trunks come with a small mesh pocket, but I haven't seen them on women's suits. Guess I just smack it on the side of me somewhere. :-)

MIGHT go to a concert or two this weekend; leaving that decision for Em. UTA has a piano concerto tonight for free and SCU has their annual big band/jazz fest concert tomorrow for $10.00/head.

Em really enjoyed that Nunsense play we saw last Sunday. The Mother Superior in that one tickled him.

I don't know if I've ever told you but I think the way you two live is mucho cool! The plays and music and museums and little travels -- and all on the cheap as a bonus. I want to be you when I grow up. In the meantime, I'll settle for living it through your tales...

Thanks for fixing the pics, Mom! I just figured out how to resize the pics on Photobucket last night, but don't know what size they have to be in order to post. When I have a little more time, I'll have to play around with that. Right now I have to do some homework before I go back to class.

The right size for photos is whatever size Photobucket identifies with forums and websites.

I shrunk the 3 photos from St.Patrick's Day and included them (obviously, duh) :-)

Haven't had a good week here. Hasn't been a terrible week, but I would have liked to not have felt kinda sick almost 3 days and I would have liked to go to the thrift store on the day they offered the old people's savings(Monday) instead of spend 3 hours working to find items that worked for me(Wednesday) just to leave it all there because there's a 30% off sale tomorrow (Friday). lol. Em sure has the patience of a saint because he sat outside the thrift store those 3 hours waiting for me. I said, "Did you at least have interesting people watching?" He said, "No." 'course dinner was late because we didn't get around to going to the thrift store Wednesday (the day I thought they gave the old people's discount) because I spent half the day feeling a little sick.

Feeling good enough now to laugh at it all, and hopefully good enough to do it again tomorrow. I know that the stuff I'd chosen on Wednesday will be gone, but hopefully I'll find some substitutes.

Got the phone and No. 1 programmed it with numbers, etc. Haven't tried it out yet, though. I'll be sure and do that tomorrow or Saturday with No. 1 in attendance so she can help me out. Cell phones might just be to some in my generation what VCRs were to some in the generation before mine. I think it was just last summer when I was visiting with a neighbor who said, "We just taught my mom how to use the cell phone we bought her. You know how THAT is." :-) NOW I do!

Today is No. 1's birthday. She's not much of an online person (never comes here), so there's no need for birthday wishes via this medium. I'm not even giving her anything for her birthday today. She got a full scholarship recently for her remaining 2 years on the BA/BS degree she's pursuing, so will start school full-time this fall at UTA. She intends to move from our place to Dave's place [again!!! (smile)] before that happens. She has a little part-time job going now at Blockbuster, but I'm not sure that'll be enough and neither of us are sure she'll even be able to handle a full-time schedule with a job and maintain a 3.5 GPA (mandatory to keep her scholarship). So, I'm holding back on a birthday present until I see what she needs down the road.

I'm also holding back because I'm gonna blow $120 on a Dermatologist visit the Monday after we return from this one-week trip. I made the appointment because I have a mole under my chin that wasn't there last year. MORE Magazine ran a melanoma awareness campaign last month and I could only ignore thinking about the possibility for a few days before I found myself worrying about the possibility. So, I'm gonna get that checked out and (as long as they're gonna charge $120 just to come in the door), I'm gonna have a list ready and strip naked if need be to have my every question answered. So, No. 1's birthday money is being spent on a mole. Larry the Cable Man could do something with that, I think.

Other new stuff is that I've lost just about as much weight as I wanted to lose. Working out probably had a lot to do with it, but I also switched to lite beer AND cut back on beer in a blood pressure experiment that went nowhere AND cooked heart-healthy (AKA colorful) meals every day. I'm gonna blog some photos of a few of those meals Saturday so Diane can get an idea of what I meant when I asked her for seeds of colorful vegetables. It's all about color, IMO.

Postscript for those trying to call No. 1 with birthday wishes:

Send your greeting to her voice mail! She rolled in this morning around 6:30am, said, "G'nite all" and hit the sack. She needs to be at Blockbuster at 5pm and works more than an 8 hour shift today...I'm thinking maybe 10.

I mention this because I hear her phone go off and I just spent over a minute of my cell phone time programming its voice mail. First time I've heard my voice replayed in many years. Who IS that woman? lol.

You spent three hours looking for clothes?? I'd have jumped off the nearest bridge if I were there. When we go to the thrift store during our spring and fall clothing restock, it takes us an hour to find 6 months' worth of clothes for all seven of us. I hate shopping.

Congrats on the scholarship!! That is incredibly cool!

I don't know cell phones, either. Steve's the phone guy. I just know how to open it to answer when it rings and I know how to call Steve. That's all I know. I don't know how to work the DVR, the VCR, or the DVD player unless it's set up so I just have to push play. Heck, I don't even know how to work digital watches. I have to mentally convert the digital time to a clock face for me to comprehend what time it is. I think I was born in the wrong generation.

Congrats on reaching the weight goal. I'm well on my way but still have quite a ways to go. I sure packed it on quitting smoking last year. I'm figuring that spring and summer will help a majority of the rest of the lard off, assuming I don't decide to just sit on my butt.

Grandma & Grandpa, the Illinois ones, are in Sallisaw right now, on their way back from an Arizona trip. They should be here for a visit with us about 11 this morning. Yay!

You spent three hours looking for clothes??

I THINK it was that long; it's a big thrift store! :-)

I tried everything on, made sure I could sit comfortably, walk comfortably, etc. Spent a fair share of that time on failures, as well. Might be a function of having changed sizes and deciding what works/doesn't work for me at this new size. I'd actually found more items than I could afford and then went through the "which will it be" decision-making, putting things back on the racks, ultimately putting it ALL back, putting on a frown and growling.

I'm learning to enjoy the process. The layout of the thrift store lends itself to experimenting with various styles, sizes, colors much better than a department store, IMO, so I take my time and try on various looks until I decide which one I want to be my look this week/month/year. It's like a small child playing dress-up and fun to a point, although 3 hours went beyond the "I'm tired of this" point. You're (through necessity) approaching clothes shopping from a utilitarian point of view and I'm now in a position to approach clothes shopping from a pure pleasure point of view.

I'm approaching MOST things in a pure pleasure point of view lately (now that I think of it). When Em and I got married a part of me said, "This is the beginning of a new life for us; make it a fun one."

We repeated Wednesday's trip to the thrift store this morning. I think only 2 or 3 items weren't there anymore from my initial selection. I re-evaluated all of them as well as evaluating some others. With 30% off today, I could afford more.

For $50.00 (actually $50.51) I got 1 Teddy (or whatever you call that thing women wear that's like a slip except it only goes to the waist), 1 swimsuit cover-up or whatever you call what you wear back to your room over your wet swimsuit after swimming at the hotel pool, 2 pair of slacks, 1 pair of shorts, 6 long-sleeved shirts and 2 short-sleeved shirts.

I did the "fashion show" for Em and No. 1 and I think we all agreed that the items purchased were flattering to me and definitely worth the $$$. I look forward to showing off my "new" clothes next week in Mississippi. I even look forward to No. 2's criticism of this year's choices. :-)

I'm so pleased that I've forgotten all about Wednesday's experience (and signed up to get their mailers so this mistake doesn't happen again). I'm also thinking that I might enjoy getting new clothing TWICE/year instead of just ONCE/year. We ARE going out more these days. :-)

Still gettin' ready for tomorrow's escape from reality and have no interest in blogging before we leave.

Have fun while we're gone, y'all!
